This letter informs that the specialists of JSC "VNIIG im. B.E. Vedeneev "highly appreciate the experience of using photogrammetric
slot meters for monitoring the state of expansion joints of hydraulic structures.

At one of the facilities where the specialists of JSC "VNIIG im. B.E. Vedeneev "carry out scientific and technical support of operation, in
on a trial basis, two photogrammetric slit meters were installed to monitor the openings of expansion joints and displacements of the hydraulic structures. The choice in favor of photogrammetric slit meters on one of the seams was due to its inaccessibility, and the use of a photogrammetric slit meter made it possible to simplify the organization of measurements without the need for additional measures regulated by labor protection requirements during measurements. The second photogrammetric slit meter was installed on a horizontal section with free access, but with the possibility of mechanical impact on its surface by snow removal equipment in winter.

The experience of using photogrammetric slot meters has shown that they can become a worthy alternative to triaxial slot meters of various designs for measuring joint deformations in three coordinates and will both improve the measurement accuracy and simplify their implementation. We also note that, as in the case of using triaxial slot meters of various designs, in areas where the surface may be exposed to mechanical stress (pedestrian loads, loads from harvesting equipment), photogrammetric slot meters should be covered with a cover to avoid damage to the photolacons. On surfaces that are only exposed to weathering, photogrammetric slits can be used without additional cover.
